ISLAMABAD: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the National Assembly will take up the issue of allotment of residential plots to six close aides of General Ziaul Haq, including former air chief, Air Chief Marshal Anwar Shamim Khan.
The federal auditors told a meeting of the PAC’s special committee that General Zia allotted plots to six of his close friends, including two senior officials of PAF and two brigadiers. Federal Secretary Cabinet Division Abdul Rauf Chaudhry informed the meeting that Air Chief Marshal (retd) Anwar Shamim, Air Vice Marshal (retd) Hamid Qureshi, Brigadier (retd) Abdul Qayyum, Brigadier (retd) Abdul Khaliq, Sultan Muhammad Khan and Tayyab Siddiqui were allotted plots in post sectors of F-6, F-7 and F-8 in 1982 on throw away prices.
Zahid Hamid, who presided over the special committee meeting, directed to refer the matter to the PAC headed by Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan. The present value of these large size plots is billions of rupees.
The issue of plots allotment to six influential people in General Zia era surfaced during review of special audit reports of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) by the special committee which met here at the Parliament House on Thursday.
The special committee also summoned senior officials of Ministry of Housing and Works, CDA, Law Ministry and Islamabad Police to take a decision about 208 disputed flats in Sector G-6/2. The meeting was informed that the flats were constructed by CDA for low-paid employees while the Housing Ministry also had not paid the amount spent on flats to the civic body.
The members of the committee were also informed that police personnel stayed at these flats during Lal Masjid operation and since then 75 flats are in their occupation and they have also obtained stay from the high court against their ejection.
